Sandwich is a city that lies on the borders of DeKalb County, Illinois, LaSalle County, Illinois and Kendall County, Illinois. The population was 6,509 at the 2000 census. Sandwich is the home of the Sandwich Fair. Held yearly the Wednesday-Sunday after Labor Day since 1888, it is the oldest continuing county fair in the state of Illinois and is one of the largest antique fairs in the United States, drawing daily crowds of more than 100,000, with the top attendance days reaching more than 200,000 fair-goers.

What Makes Sandwich Unique?
- Veteran's Park - a joint venture between the city and the park district. It features a gazebo and two plaques, one honoring veterans and the other honoring a woman who worked to make the park a reality.
- The Hoover Outdoor Education Center - is a 406-acre camp with more than a mile of frontage along the Fox River. It features group accommodations for camping, dining, swimming, and lodging as well as an education building with several meeting rooms. The center has instructional programs in aquatics, arts and crafts, nature study and sports.
- Opera House - provides a modern setting for the performing arts. There is a full season including classical music, country-western ensembles, student recitals, bluegrass music, dance, three two-weekend productions by the resident company Indian Valley Theatre, pop performers, summer theater workshops for children, et cetera. Rental performances are also given as scheduling permits.
